“The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.”
—Psalm 34.10
Life is bound to have difficulties. Many different reasons can lead to failed plans. Sometimes the opposition is too strong, and you have no support.
What are you going to do?
The most common response is to accept it with a sigh. Many people passively believe in fate. Life is full of ups and downs. Let the hardship come, and prosperity will follow. As the saying goes, “No matter how long the road is, it’ll ends somewhere.” Such people tell themselves to be patient for the difficulty will soon pass.
Some others believe that the future is in their hands and they can shape their own destiny. So, they work harder than before and strive to break through the predicament.
In the Old Testament, Psalm 34 is a psalm of comfort and encouragement. The preface mentions that David, the author, was running away from King Saul. While passing through a foreign land, he feared his enemies. So, he feigned insanity and was let go.
In his downtime, he wrote this poem. David reflected on his past glory. He used to be brilliant and strong, even considered by many as more capable than Saul. Now he was a fugitive with nothing.
Like a young lion, David had mental and physical strength. But even a powerful lion might be short of prey. A person in his prime with health and knowledge seems invincible. If something goes wrong, he can always start it all over again, right? Yet, no one is truly invincible.
David realized that during difficult times, he could always turn to God. Seeking the Lord means establishing a relationship with Him to receive encouragement and guidance. Instead of focusing on our own problems and trying frantically to solve them, we fix our eyes on God and have fellowship with Him. The result is that we will lack nothing. It doesn’t mean to have all the things we wish for, but our needs will be met according to God’s sovereignty.
